An installation along Boston’s Atlantic Wharf that addresses the nature of site specificity, landscape, and scale, through emerging digital design and fabrication methods at full-scale building. A field of slender vertical members, ever increasing in their height, are spaced to allow for meandering movement. As the members move along the field, the distance between them tightens to enclose a circular space at one end. Each member is slightly tapered at eye level so that through their density a blurred horizon appears. The collective experience is the horizon. Each individual member within the installation contains a piece of the collective whole. Only through the gathering of individual members at a certain density and in a certain place can the collective experience of the horizon be understood.
Designed, fabricated and built as part of a special topics studio with 11 other graduate students.
